The brief
Vizual Rhythm, a San Diego photo and video studio we partner with, wanted last season’s nine-minute film rebuilt as a tight documentary of Sweetwater Valley’s 7U run through the Tournament of Champions: four games, a practice, coach and kid interviews, two announcers and the final celebration. The story wasn’t meant to be the scores. It was teamwork, family and community.
Our approach
We had hours of cinema, drone and parents’ phone footage, and one game that only existed in photos. We built it in drafts: a first cut to lock story and pacing, then a second pass for rhythm, scoreboards, lower thirds and sound. We removed the camera operator’s voice, layered bat cracks, catches and crowd swells, and left room for the announcer voiceover we cut in last. The photo-only game became a stills-and-voiceover sequence that holds its own next to the live footage.
The result
Delivered as a widescreen film, a music-free master for the studio, and two split-screen vertical reels pairing the kids’ interviews with their best plays. The studio came straight back with a 5-star review and their next project, a boxing event recap.
